The Forgotten Storm

The 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was the most active in recorded history. This season is remembered fondly by Texas surfers for names like Dennis, Emily, Katrina, Rita and Wilma because of the great waves these storms brought.

Lost in the mix however is Tropical Storm Cindy (later upgraded to a minimal hurricane) which took a classic track to deliver good surf to coast of Texas.

Unfortunately the storm was lopsided and didn’t really “face” Texas until the last instant before going inland in Louisiana. Because of this the swell missed Corpus Christi and South Padre Island, leaving only the upper coast in the window.

This video was shot the morning of July 6, 2005, a rare half day when Surfside Beach had waves and the rest of the coast of Texas didn’t making it the “forgotten storm” of that year.
